New buzzword "Intolerance"

Looking back at the year gone by ..I came across a new buzz word "Intolerance" and that word has intrigued me and made me delve further to analyse and understand what this is all about.

As per the oxford dictionary, the meaning of intolerance is "Unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from one’s own".

The question that arises in my mind is that Are we Indians really intolerant ? In a family, dont we have opposing views? If we can accept that we can have differing views in a family, why cant we accept we have opposing views in our country which is nothing but an extension of our family.

India is one of the most religiously diverse nation in the world and has since ages embraced various religious beliefs with aplomb. People of diverse culture has been staying together as "One" since centuries. Agreed we have differences and sometimes these differences are of bigger magnitude but wasn't it there from beginning. Has India not come out of it stronger every time when we had such issues and Indians become more closer?

One of the key fundamental rights which Indian constitution has provided is "Freedom of speech and expression" . All of us are free to express our views but that doesn't mean we are given a right to offend our country for our personal gains.  One Indian famous actor recently quoted that his spouse suggested that they should move out of India because of the so called growing intolerance in the country. My only question to him and his spouse "which other country in the world is tolerant where they can settle peacefully"?

One good things about us Indians that we forget and forgive things easily and I am sure that we will forget this illusion of the so called individual.

However, one question does comes to mind , " Are we Indians taking our "Freedom of speech and expression" for granted that we go to any extent to offend and put our country in wrong light ?

On a parting note, looking forward to another fun filled and adventurous year-2016 ...
